FLCL Review
Intro
Naota is your regular everyday guy who lives in a regular everyday town. With his brother in America playing baseball, his brother’s girlfriend, Momimi keeps hitting on him. So one day while he and Momimi are on a bridge, a mysterious girl on a scooter runs Naota over. To revive him she gives him CPR and hits him on the head with her guitar. O_O Nope that’s not a typo, her guitar. Next day, Naota has horns growing out of his head and the mysterious girl who ran him over becomes his housekeeper. Oh by the way did I mention that later a robot comes out of his head and that he now has no actual brain? Literally.
Storyline Rating: 8.8
FLCL is definitely NOT your average anime!! In fact it’s so weird that if you don’t watch the first episode first then you will just think it’s stupid. The first time FLCL came on adult swim I saw the second episode and I won’t lie to you it disturbed me so much and it was WAY too weird for my tastes. Then much, much later when it aired again, I figured I’d give it a second chance. After the first episode I WAS HOOKED!!! I HIGHLY recommend watching the first episode FIRST if you don’t then you’ll reject it right away!! Don’t expect to understand FLCL. After the 4th episode I was like, huh. However FLCL is defiantly worth a look, but be warned this anime isn’t for everyone.
Characters Rating: 8
The characters are all kinda twisted , but not NEARLY as twisted as Revolutionary Girl Utena. However this is to be expected from Gainax. Despite this I found that the characters were human in a way.
Art Rating: 8.5
The art to a large degree was very different from any I had seen before. However, FLCL is different from any I had seen before. So I think it’s safe to say that it suits the series very well.
Overall Rating: 8.8
Overall FLCL is a series that will never cease to make you want more.
Warnings
There are some disturbing scenes in this series. Also some fan service. Such as Haruko(the girl who whacks Naota on the head) in a towel. Haruko also seduces Naota’s dad to make Naota jealous. You can’t see anything, but you can hear them. *shiver* Man, I was soooooo scared when I saw that scene. In one episode Momimi worships Canti and thinks he’s a god. Momimi might disturb some people. In my opinion she would really benefit with therapy. There’s also some nudity, but not detailed.
